Aware software and solutions have been used for a variety of law enforcement applications since the early 1990s. At the heart of several Aware solutions for law enforcement is Biometric Services Platform (BioSP™). BioSP is an off-the-shelf software product that runs on a server to execute custom workflows and data processing steps. It is configurable to support specific data formatting and routing requirements, and can be easily installed in a network to 1) ensure an open, modular network design that is agnostic to specific hardware and software products, 2) make EFTS records more accessible and useful, 3) save time and prevent errors through automation of critical functions, and 4) ensure compliance and quality. BioSP-based solutions include the Mobile Device Gateway Server used to enable search of biometric databases from mobile devices, and search of local biometric data such as mugshots. Administrators can configure the system, read and edit data, and run custom reports from a browser.

We often hear about the benefits and applications of “multimodal” biometrics; the use of different biometric modalities together (e.g. fingerprint and face) to increase the performance and enrollment flexibility of biometric search and match solutions. There are cases where going multimodal is an ideal solution, but others where it’s not an attractive option. The benefits [...]

Facial Biometric Search – Examiner Tools Can Make the Difference

The proliferation of digital cameras and facial images has made facial biometrics extremely useful for criminal investigations, and increasingly so for identity applications beyond law enforcement. As with fingerprints, the use of facial biometrics needs to meet certain criteria to make them admissible in court or for whatever legal basis might be required. In these [...]
