Biometrics is sometimes thought of as a solution only for the large enterprise. Those less familiar with biometrics might believe that their small- to mid-sized business (SMB) doesn’t have the time, budget, or in-house technical expertise to implement biometric authentication, but that’s no longer true. In fact, biometrics can be a game changer for SMBs.

Aware CEO Bob Eckel was recently published in AMEX’s Business Trends & Insights, where he relayed his thoughts on how biometric authentication can be the catalyst that many smaller organizations need to get a leg up on their larger competitors.

Here are two takeaways:

  1. Consumers hate passwords and will not suffer through a kludgy password reset process. Companies are continually charged with raising their standards on how, why, when, and where they present their customers with a password process. SMBs must compete here or risk losing customers to the competitors that get it right.
  2. SMBs are often considered softer targets compared to larger enterprises. If your company needs to protect customer data, financial accounts, PII – or even a stockroom loaded with inventory – biometrics can help.
