This page demonstrates the following JPEG 2000 features:
1. Progressive transmission by image quality (fidelity).
The image sequence shown above illustrates how a file can be progressively decompressed at better and better quality levels. The information in the text box on the right indicates the amount of data needed to decode the image at the quality shown, as well as the effective compression ratio. Clicking on any of the quality buttons will take you back to that quality image.
2. Lossless compression option.
Note that the final image in the sequence (the one labeled "best") is actually a lossless representation of the original image. JPEG 2000 includes a lossless compression option which was not available in baseline JPEG.
3. Lossless/Lossy compression from a single image file.
The same compressed image file is actually used to decode the image at the different qualities shown in the image sequence above. This demonstrates the ability of JPEG 2000 to decode both lossless and lossy versions of the same image from the a single compressed image file.
