Progressive Transmission/Rendering by Color Channel

This page demonstrates how a JPEG 2000 image can be transmitted progressively by color channel. The animation shown above illustrates how a file can be initially decompressed using a single color channel resulting in a grayscale image. Transmitting and decoding the additional color channels results in the full color image shown.

The information in the text box on the right indicates the amount of data needed to decode the image using the color channels shown, as well as the effective compression ratio.  For the grayscale representation of the compressed image, 9.6 Kbytes are used. This corresponds to 58% of the total compressed image file. The effective compression ratio for the grayscale image is 50:1.
