AccuRad ImageShare Server is an image server for fast, efficient, low cost distribution of medical images in cross-enterprise health information exchange systems. It utilizes DICOM, WADO, and the web services advantages of the IHE’s XDS-I.b Profile to achieve interoperability, and leverages the advanced features of JPEG2000 compression and JPIP streaming for high performance. AccuRad ImageShare Server enables reliable interoperability between the image archive, such as a PACS, and the client image viewer for a vendor-neutral system design.
How AccuRad ImageShare Server Works
Preparation for JPIP Streaming and Registration
of DICOM Images from Image Archive
- AccuRad ImageShare Server communicates directly with the image archive to receive DICOM images.
- AccuRad ImageShare Server compresses the images using JPEG2000 for efficient, standards-compliant storage, and prepares the data for streaming to viewers using the DICOM and XDS-I.b approved JPIP protocol.
- In preparing the data for streaming, AccuRad ImageShare Server builds a study manifest and DICOM header files with JPIP links to the image data.
- The server registers the manifest to an XDS.b document repository.
Image Data Viewing Support
- When the viewing client calls for a study, the server sends the manifest and DICOM header files via WADO
(or alternatively the JPIP-referenced DICOM files
via DICOM).
- A client such as AccuRad ImageShare Workstation requests the pixel data via JPIP.
- AccuRad ImageShare Server receives the JPIP request, locates the image and/or region of an image, determines if the image or region has already been delivered, and responds accordingly with JPIP image data or notifications.
