Aware Announces New Modem Modules for Telecom Outside Plant Test Equipment
BEDFORD, Mass. – May 10, 2006 – Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE), a worldwide leader and innovator of broadband intellectual property, today announced the immediate availability of its comprehensive product line of standard-compliant ADSL2+ and VDSL2 modem modules for telecom outside plant handheld test equipment. The modules are designed to enable test equipment vendors to quickly integrate modem emulation and advanced diagnostics into their products for use by field technicians responsible for ADSL2+ and VDSL2 service verification. These “all-in-one” modules offer a full suite of DSL physical layer diagnostics, ATM statistics, and IP connectivity, as well as Aware’s advanced Dr. DSL® expert diagnostics software.
Aware’s products are available in three models. The powerful yet economical 350 model is a low-power ADSL2+ ATU-R modem which is fully compliant with the ITU G.992.5 ADSL2+ standard and is based on Aware’s field-proven interoperable technology. The 450 and 550 models are flexible, small-profile VDSL2 modems which can be software-configured to operate as a remote terminal (RT) to verify DSLAM sync rates and IP network connectivity, or as a central office (CO) for customer premises service verification. Both the 450 and 550 are fully compliant with the recently approved International Telecommunications Union (ITU) G.993.2 VDSL2 standard and support all eight configuration profiles, including the 50 Mbps 17a and 8b profiles to be deployed by Deutsche Telekom for their IPTV initiative. The 350, 450 and 550 modules are backward compatible and interoperable to legacy ADSL equipment.
All modules also support Aware’s Dr. DSL expert diagnostics software which troubleshoots outside plant physical layer problems that impact DSL, including far-end bridged taps and wideband noise interference. By using Dr. DSL’s problem identification capability and SmartRx™ rate reduction technology, field technicians can quickly determine if a line can be cost-effectively conditioned to support new VDSL2 high-bandwidth services such as HD IPTV video.
Each module supports a Linux operating system which contains drivers and applications that are used to manage the initiation of DSL links and to support a broad spectrum of diagnostics, from physical layers through the ATM and IP packet layer. The modules also support bridge and router functionality and provide a convenient LAN interface for modem control and the passing of ATM and IP data.
Aware’s outside plant handheld test modules will be featured in Aware’s booths at GLOBALCOMM 2006 (#16035) and OSP Expo (#67030) from June 5 – 7, 2006 in Chicago. For more information on Aware or its line of DSL test and diagnostic products, please visit Aware’s website at http://www.aware.com.
