European Service Providers Discuss New Broadband Initiatives at CeBIT 2006

Aware’s VDSL2 intellectual property meets latest industry requirements

BEDFORD, Mass. – March 14, 2006 – This week at CeBIT 2006, European service providers are discussing their plans to build out their networks to achieve higher data rates. For example, Deutsche Telekom (DT) expanded on its recently announced broadband initiative to upgrade its high-speed network to offer customers innovative broadband applications such as High Definition Television (HDTV) content, including broadcasts of Germany's premiere soccer league. Later this year, DT will launch Germany’s first commercial VDSL2 network, which uses fiber-to-the neighborhood (FTTN) to shorten loops and VDSL2 equipment in both the CO (central office) and CPE (customer premise equipment). Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE) today announced that its VDSL2 intellectual property successfully meets the demanding requirements being set by service providers today, including complete VDSL2 compliance and data rates that support high-quality entertainment services such as HDTV.

Aware’s VDSL2 silicon intellectual property (IP) offering allows integrated circuit manufacturers to field VDSL2 chipsets for modems, gateways, or central office products rapidly and with guaranteed interoperability and performance. Aware’s technology is fully compliant with the recently approved International Telecommunications Union (ITU) G.993.2 VDSL2 standard and supports all eight configuration profiles, including the 50 Mbps 17a and 8b profiles to be deployed by DT, and the highest bandwidth 30MHz frequency spectrum which delivers symmetric rates up to 100Mbps over short distances. Aware’s VDSL2 silicon IP offering is also fully compliant with the ITU G.992.5 ADSL2+ CPE and CO standards allowing a single chipset solution to meet all the requirements in the VDSL2 as well as the ADSL2+ standards.

“As IPTV deployments are becoming a reality, telephone companies are focusing on how much customer bandwidth is needed to deliver multi-channel high-definition IPTV. The decision by Deutsche Telekom to use VDSL2 in a FTTN architecture reflects their confidence that VDSL2 can deliver the required bandwidth for these applications,” commented Peter LeBlanc, Aware’s vice president of marketing. “Our StratiPHY3™ silicon intellectual property platform is well positioned to capitalize on the growing trend of service providers using standard-compliant VDSL2-based equipment to deliver advanced services.”
