Aware’s Technician Dr. DSL software essentially turns an off-the-shelf modem into an advanced handheld outside plant tester. It enables field technicians to efficiently troubleshoot common DSL problems by identifying their source and calculating the data rate impact of each disturber such as short bridged taps, AM noise ingress, crosstalk, and in-home problems. Technician Dr. DSL’s physical layer analysis capabilities include: |
|
-
Topology Analysis and Bridged Tap Detection: Scans a multi-segment, muti-gauge loop, converting it to an electrical equivalent loop length for more accurate comparison with other loops and DSL performance analysis. Reports the number and length of bridged taps, and shows the data rate impact of the taps.
-
Disturber Identification: Scans the ADSL and ADSL2+ spectrum for crosstalk, AM, and other external noise. Identifies the type of crosstalk (ISDN, T1, HDSL, etc), the power level, and the impact on data rate.
-
In-home Analysis: Scans the home for missing or incorrectly installed microfilters, which are critical for higher-speed service quality. Problems are only reported if there is a data rate impact.
-
Rate Reduction Analysis: Calculates the data rate reduction due to taps, crosstalk and AM ingress and highlights each problem in red, green or yellow for easy analysis.
